Uncle Leuschner & the Chris Complex is an eclectic Seattle-based trio whose repertoire grows from a compost of lo-fi quirk and indiscriminant folk music. Once members of the infamous John K. Facey ensemble, ULCC was born on stage at Belltown’s Jewel Box Theater when their saxophonist and bassist decided not to show up. Since then, these three men have been followed deep into the art-holes of the Northwest, riling up the natives with their jangled hash of hootenanny and tragedy. Diverse yet minimal instrumentation bears out their compositions, each original song constructed from the bricolage of ULCC’s group mind, often at the expense of such phenomena as Mark Twain, Peruvian folk music, or the board game Payday®. Their live performances are layered with boozy mirth, emotional insinuation, and power tools. ULCC’s bunker stylings belie their intractable array of referents and influences, from Pablo Neruda to 18th century rural Ireland.
