Chlorophyll -
Hackensack, NJ
By Pat Ferris
With a growing resume of press reviews from Billboard
Magazine to the New York Times, this Hackensack New Jersey power-pop trio's recently
released CD landed an opening slot on select dates of the Tori Amos / Alanis Morissette
"5 1/2 weeks" tour and gained them major airplay on East Coast modern rock radio
stations.
Bassist and frontman Pat Jamieson's vocals and songwriting are excellent. The arrangements
reminded me of vintage Beatles. The group was also recently named best unsigned band by
WJSE-FM out of Atlantic City, NJ as well as winning the "Local Licks" web vote
on WHTG-FM out of Monmouth NJ.
I stopped by their MP3.com site http://www.mp3.com/chlorophyll
to hear some of the samples from their CD.
Their music was definitely poppy with great hooks and lyrics. It seemed that each of the
songs I listened to were tinny sounding, so I'm not sure if that was a reflection of the
production of the recording or how it was encoded from CD to MP3. Their self-released CD
"Chlorophyll" can be found at Tower Records as well as Amazon.com
or at MP3.com in DAM format.
This is another band that is one to watch. Chlorophyll looks as though they will be
predictably popular, so I'm looking forward to hearing future CD's and seeing them on
tour.
Their website is professionally created and looks fantastic (although I think a 100% Flash site isn't totally user friendly).
