A brand new pop band in the Boston circuit is The Charms, fronted by guitarist/vocalist Ellie Vee with backing vocals from keyboardist Kat Kina. Their sound is familiar, but still fresh and exciting. Their first full length CD is still in production, but thier demo alone is worth noting and I anticipate a buzz in the pop/punk scene when their full CD is released.

Vee's uses the full attributes of her voice to create an exciting, sexy sound with song arrangements that aren't anticipated, keeping the listener on edge for what's next. Dual guitars with a raw AC/DC sound combined with a familiar Vox Continental keyboard sound (is that sampled or the real thing?) made popular by The Doors and The Animals of the 60's and topped with Vee's lead vocals and Kina's harmonies is a winning combination. The Charms is one of the best female fronted rock sounds since The Bangels and B-52 era.

A growing fan base and regular gigs in the Boston area lay the foundation for a successful and highly anticipated CD release. If there was ever a band that was radio-ready for the teen-mid twenties market, The Charms are all over it...looks, sound, lyrics, everything. The key ingredient is fun.
