One of the greatest benefits of running an online music publication, is the amount of wonderful music I've been able to hear. Another great find who is pushing the boundaries of fusion guitar, is Jorge Barnet. An elite Jazz guitarist from Caracas, Venezuela, Barnet's grade school interest in music continuted at Berklee College of Music in Boston and eventually led to a career in music writing for film and documentaries as well as teaching. His solo release Cuando tu regreses (When You Return), brilliantly combines Latin and flamenco influences with fusion jazz guitar influces, creating a Latin Jazz sound unique, yet familiar...as if Carlos Santana was fronting Spyro Gyra. Even hard-core rockers' can't help but appreciate his guitar work and skill as an arranger and composer.
