Europe has been a cross-cultural melting pot for hundreds of years, but in the realm of music, it wasn't until development of recorded music that genres became readily available to different parts of the world. Since then, it's been the development of records, cassette tapes and Compact Discs in the last 50 years that has allowed music to evolve into hybrids of different styles. From Eindhoven, Netherlands (outside of Amsterdam) the band Orange Grove is, in itself, a musical melting pot of cross-ocean influences synthesized in a positive, upbeat, reggae(ish) band. Lead vocalist Michael Maidwell's rough yet tough voice, as well as Orange Grove's arrangements combine reggae, ska, rap, and rock to define Orange Grove as a cutting edge reggae rock band. Good lyrics, songwriting and a totally positive sound, makes listening to Orange Grove a feel good experience. I listened to all of the tracks at their MP3.com page, a mix of live and studio tracks, and found a diamond in the rough! A real gem of a band that has already come into their own sound and following with their first release These Days. Orange Grove's songs available at their MP3.com page have created an online following world-wide that has already generated over 125,000 downloads. I can see Orange Grove appealing (or is it 'a peeling'?) to reggae, rock, pop and metal audiences, and These Days is a CD that would compliment the music collection of someone looking for something fresh, exciting and unexpected. In the least, take the time to hear a band that is expanding the boundaries of reggae, rap and metal. For more information on Orange Grove, CLICK HERE |
