Charmed I'm Sure - CD Review
By Patrick Ferris

It's been nearly a year since I first heard Boston pop-punkers The Charm's demo EP, and I've eagerly looked forward to the release of their first full length CD Charmed I'm Sure.

This retro-pop quintet fronted by guitarist/vocalist Ellie Vee brings back days of innocence, refreshingly pursuing lyrics concerning daily events of post-teen adolescence over the stresses of the world's current political climate. Their upbeat feel and obvious stage energy shines through all 11 tracks of their debut release. The song arrangements along with the sound itself...guitarist Joe Wizda's crunching guitar, Kat Kina's Farfisa organ and harmonizing vocals with Vee's vocals might be described as The Cars meets The Bangles. The bottom line is that it's fun, danceable music, which I'm sure is contributing the the solid gig schedule The Charms have kept up for the last several months.

The Charm's have a sound that is undoubtedly a winner among live music clubs. Now that their momentum has started, it will be interesting to see which direction this energetic young band grows. To quote myself from the first time I heard them, "If there was ever a band that was radio-ready for the teen-mid twenties market, The Charm's are all over it...looks, sound, lyrics, everything. The key ingredient is fun."
