Verbal Contact - Kansas City, MOPoetical Checkmate - CD Review By Patrick Ferris Verbal Contact is a hyper hip-hop duo hailing from Kansas City, Missouri and rapping together since the late 1990s. In 1999, Verbal Contact made the MTV/Loud Records Ultimate Hip-Hop Talent Search, which led them to a performance spot at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Verbal Contact singers, The Saint, and Blaze-1, don't sample other artist beats, rap all styles, and keep it real without cussing. Their first release, Poetical Checkmate, is a collection of 14 original songs with good lyrical content, solid and original beats and plenty of low-end. Liner notes on the CD shows a strong Christian faith among both of them, which is no doubt, where Verbal Contact draws the ability for strong lyrical content while keeping it refreshingly clean. Overall, Poetical Checkmate was a mesmerizing CD, great driving music, and although there were a couple of higher energy songs like 'Give Me The Bomb', the general feel of the CD was laid back, cool out, and listen to the message.
