Ultrasound - CD Review
By Patrick Ferris

If you've ever wondered what happens to the band that makes a superstar in the aftermath of success, Dr. Fink's first release, Ultrasound, shows he has re-emerged after his days as keyboardist for Prince and the Revolution, as an accomplished solo artist forging his own sound.

Upon listening to Ultrasound, it's obvious that Dr. Fink is one of the main driving forces behind the dance sound of the early 1980s. Nearly two-thirds of the CD are instrumental dance tracks that feature Dr. Fink's talent as a soloist and composer. If you can imagine Prince and the Revolution with a keyboard as the lead instrument, you're on the right track. Ultrasound captures all of the great dance beats and arrangements that defined the sound of the Purple Rain era, spanning the spectrum of dance music, combining groove, funk, pop, and techno into sound that's made for the nightclub.

Since leaving Prince in 1991, The Doctor has spent much of his time in his Minneapolis recording studio, StarVu. He has written music for both soundtracks and video games, and has produced releases for promising independent artists. Currently, he is in the process of assembling a band to hit the stage with a live show in support of Ultrasound.
