Growing up in Florida gives one the real feeling of that muggy oppressiveness that somehow creates the best blues. Conveniently that’s where Dave Thrift sharpened his teeth.

He currently is playing around the Midwest, so if you’re in the mood for some good blues with personal flair, Dave Thrift is your man.

The first song I downloaded, Cruise opens with a nice wash of sound, making you feel like you’re traveling down that long, moonlit road on the journey of a lifetime, then you take a right turn and enter into a very comfortable Santana-like groove that gives you the itch to shake your hip and party. Once those juices are flowing, he comes in with Have a Good Time, using the blues to let us know his plans for you and the evening. His display of musicianship on variations on America’s oldest and greatest chord progression shows that he indeed as a deep and rich musical concept.

In case you needed reassuring, his song Guitar Parts shows that Dave can jam as aptly as any blues heavy.

All in all, Dave Thrift is a guy I’d really like to see live and if you get the chance, you should too. Keep your ears to the ground and look this guy up to see if he’s blasting through your town.
