enQ – Dunstable, United KingdomTear Down the Barriers – CD Review By Sammy Lett - Staff Writer If you could imagine The Doors crossed with The Corrs, you can imagine enQ. From Dunstable, UK, enQ [pronounced eee-en-cue], is a dynamic, solid and intriguing band that is a breath of fresh air from the traditional world of Celtic music. Employing influences from Celtic folk, jazz and progressive rock, enQ creates a sound that is unique and exciting. Guitarist Brian Heywood’s introspective lyrics and strong lead vocals by frontman Sean Devlin are complimented by the band instrumentation featuring Vicky Brown (violin and backing vocals), who becomes the musical focal point of the band with her energetic fiddle playing. Blurring the boundaries between modern and traditional music, enQs’ first CD effort entitled Tear Down the Barriers, is 12 tracks of old Celtic folk in a modern context that can’t help but spellbind the listener with haunting melodies and danceable beats.
