Running Potatoes - Buenos Aires, ArgentinaEmpty Pockets - CD Review By Patrick Ferris Running Potatoes is a 9-piece punk-ska band from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Their debut CD, Empty Pockets is a blast of high-octane fun that effectively translates their live stage energy, giving the listener a great perspective of what a 'Hot Potato' sounds like. With fast, fun, high-energy music and rebellious lyrics, Running Potatoes aren't your typical Spanish ska band; they perform the majority of their music in English with their unique blend of punk, ska and hardcore. They're young, energetic, out of control musicians that are having a great time and making some really good music while doing it. Even their version of the Louis Armstrong classic Wonderful World is done in their own punk-ska style that brings a totally different perspective to a traditional standard. The ability to stay tight and intricate while performing at ska tempos demonstrates the skill of each musician as an individual as well as their ability to work together as a group. With an impressive list of festival shows throughout Argentina and Uruguay already under their belt, Running Potatoes is back in the studio recording their follow up CD, establishing themselves as a long-term project with worldwide ambitions.
