Josh Williamson - Seattle, WAA Working Man's Breakfast - CD Review By Patrick Ferris The Josh Williamson Band is definitely one of the up and coming rock bands and absolutely one of the better blues bands in Seattle. Not even old enough to be attending bars for fun, Josh is already a 2 year veteran of the Seattle live music scene, playing and touring locally on a regular schedule. At the age of 16, based on a recording of his guitar playing, Josh won a nation-wide contest sponsored by Guitar Center, Giant Records, and Fender Guitars, and appeared live at the LA House of Blues with Kenny Wayne Shepherd. At the age of 17, fronting the Josh Williamson Blues Band, he opened for Joe Louis Walker in San Jose, California. Josh has come a long way since the first time I saw him last year. He's obviously a blues influenced player, but he's matured into a full-fledged rock and roller: A strong songwriter with a good band that is starting to build a following. He's gone through a couple of band member changes, but it seems to be for the best because he now has a solid band with a defining funky blues sound. His first release, A Working Man's Breakfast, is 11 original tracks released through Blue Root Records. Josh's gritty voice, much like a young George Thorogood, perfectly compliments his guitar work, which sounds like chops of someone that should be years older. A Working Man's Breakfast stretches far beyond what most people would call blues. Good arrangements in the songwriting create driving, funky and exciting tunes that showcase Josh's guitar playing. Chasin' Alice was my personal favorite, but there were several songs that had potential for airplay on blues or college radio. For more information on The Josh Williamson Band, CLICK HERE |
