Mike Hallal - Boston, MA Mike Hallal - Boston, MA
Chains of Being - CD Review
By Patrick Ferris

Mike Hallal is a diverse songwriter with a music style ranging the entire spectrum of blues and beyond. Mike has been active in the Boston area music scene for over two decades, with over 15 releases and compliations.

His latest release, Chains of Being, contains nine studio tracks and two live tracks including Red Sox Blues, a song which helped gain Mike Hallal notoriety in the Boston area. More of a honky-tonk than a standard blues, Red Sox Blues was a timely song considering the New York Yankees 11th inning come-from-behind victory in the 7th game of the AL East playoffs which nixed Boston from the 2003 World Series.

For Chains of Being, Mike assembled a very good band with some exceptional musicians, without creating a central instrumental sound. What I mean is, that it isn't a guitar featured band or an organ featured band, the focus of the Mike Hallal band is really around the songwriting and lyrical content. Mike is a strong songwriter with the gift of telling tales in a way that relates to the average guy.
