Memorial for Bruce Kelton

In memory of Bruce Kelton. A great friend and mentorA Tribute to Bruce Kelton
By Patrick Ferris

This month’s feature is dedicated to an artist in the truest sense of the word.

Bruce Kelton, friend, mentor, business associate and designer of the current version of this website, passed away on October 13th 2004.

Bruce’s death was so sudden and unexpected that it left all of us stunned. Unable to focus on featuring or even thinking about an artist of the month, I want to dedicate this month as a small tribute to a friend that contributed a lot to my view of the world and left before I had a chance to say goodbye.

I met Bruce while working in small business development at a local Internet service provider. Having worked with many of the webmasters in the area, Bruce's team at Exographics provided services that were highly professional, affordable and functional, and they quickly became my preferred design company, which in turn developed into a close personal friendship.

Bruce strummed a little guitar and mandolin, but his real talent was working with his hands. A talented artist and painter, Bruce worked in the carpentry trade for years, eventually replacing the hammer with the computer as his preferred tool of choice. A natural with anything visual, he blossomed into one of the most intuitive and insightful web-designers I’ve had the chance to work with. He mastered every new visual program released by Adobe and Macromedia, yet he continually challenged himself, creating visual textures during bursts of inspiration that he would later use as enhancements for his web creations.

A political pundit and outspoken liberal, philosopher, dog lover and philanthropist, Bruce Kelton will be greatly missed among his family, friends and colleagues, but will be remembered and honored for the enrichment and enlightenment he gave to each of us.

Rest well my friend.
